One of our favorite things to do here at The Chris & Claude Co. is to breathe life into historic spaces that have all the charm…but need a little bit of attention to bring them back to their former glory. Fortunately, we are located in an area that has no lack of history. However, sometimes you’re dealing with a house that’s a pretty blank canvas. You want character, but it feels like there’s just not a lot to work with. Don’t loose hope!
Achieving the Charm You’ve Been Dreaming About!
Tip No. 1 – Start with What’s Already There
First things first: your house may have more character than you think! Before you spend money on large scale renovations, do a little exploring! Try removing that layer of paint covering your beautiful wooden banister, or sanding and refinishing the original floors. You might be surprised with what you find!

Tip No. 2 – It’s All in the Details
Look for ways to add character here and there! Often times, character really comes in the details! Try switching out your lighting fixtures or hardware. Add trim or wallpaper to a boring wall or up the staircase! The fun part about this is that it is a process that takes time, and your home will evolve as you go! Check out one of our recent exterior renovations below for some inspiration!
